How to Submit Your Pitch
- We are currently accepting pitches to write for our blog! Topics especially welcomed include:
- Your personal narrative as a Muslim
the lived experiences of Muslim women in your local context - Developments in Muslim family laws or personal status laws
- Women’s rights/human rights/gender equality and Islam
Islamic/Muslim feminism(s) - Social justice/gender justice movements
- Qur’anic or Hadith interpretations that support justice and equality
- Updates on your organisation/group’s work, etc
- Your personal narrative as a Muslim
- We give precedence to authors who are Muslim women or currently working on Muslim women’s issues and/or in an organisation that works on Muslim women’s issues.
- E-mail your pitch or your submission as a word document to the Communications Programme Officer, Fatima Qureshi (fati[email protected]) at with the subject: PITCH SUBMISSION TO MUSAWAH
- Pitches must be a 1-2 sentence of what you plan to write about. When submitting a pitch, do also attach 2-3 previous writing samples. Note that once you submit your pitch, our team will contact you via email if we require more elaboration or clarity on it.
Your Submission
- If selected, your post may go through an editing process, which may include edits on grammar, syntax, clarity, length, etc. We will work with you to ensure the post remains in your voice.
- All posts must be original and submitted in English or Arabic. If you can provide a translation in those languages, we will consider other languages as well.
- Submissions must be between 800-1,500 words, in 12pt Times New Roman.
- We do not accept works that contain plagiarism.
- Where relevant, we encourage you to cite your sources, with links where possible.
- If you have suggestions for accompanying images or multimedia, please say so in your email.
- If your article has appeared on your personal or organisational blog, please note so and whether you have permission to repost it elsewhere.
- Please include a short bio of the author or organisation (50–100 words), including social media handles, if you would like Musawah to tag you later. It is also possible to publicly remain anonymous.
- It will take up to 10 working days for us to get back to you about your pitch or submission. We will also keep you informed as to when your submission will be published.
- Musawah reserves the right to unpublish your work from our website if there are security issues attached to the article.
Payment Information
- We pay USD 0.80 a word for articles/blog posts.
- We aim to pay our writers within 30 days of receiving your invoice.
