WHAT WE DO

Our work embodies the principles of equality, non-discrimination, justice, and dignity within the Muslim family. Aligned with our vision, we strategically focus on key areas to advance our goals and create impact.

MUSAWAH WORKS IN FIVE KEY AREAS

Knowledge Building

Facilitating and creating access to knowledge about women’s rights in Islam.

Capacity Building

Strengthening our sense of community and common purpose through capacity building and outreach to activists and CSOs.

Campaign for Justice in Muslim Family Laws

Organises and mobilises efforts of women’s rights activists, academics, and policy makers from Muslim communities at the national and regional levels across the Global South. This movement building campaign seeks to end discrimination against women and create a world where Muslim family laws and practices embrace and promote justice and equality.

International Advocacy

Amplifying Muslim women’s voices at the regional and international levels

Communications

Raising the visibility of our work and Advocates actions among broader communities.

Since 2009, Musawah has launched numerous projects and collaborated with advocates and activists worldwide to drive impactful change. Explore our global impact and see the difference we’re making through our work.

We have strengthened relationships with advocates from Senegal, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, and The Gambia, and most recently in 2021, established a sustained programmatic effort in the Greater Horn of Africa, thanks to Dutch Govt funded We Cannot Wait Consortium ( WCW) project that covers Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, and Somalia and Somaliland.
