Finance Officer

Musawah is currently seeking a Finance Officer to be a part of the Resource Management Team (RMT) to coordinate and implement all administrative work towards the efficient running of the Musawah Secretariat.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

The role of Finance Officer is to provide assistance to the Manager – Resource Management Team, related to accounts and finance of Musawah projects, funders and auditors. 


  • Maintain and prepare the Management Accounts.
  • Work with the Manager – Resource Management Team in the submission of finance report to Funders.
  • Oversee the status of the expenditure of Musawah’s Projects.
  • Prepare relevant payment vouchers, issue cheques, key in accounting records into the accounting system, Journal entries, and any other financial details that are required in producing a complete report.
  • Prepare reports and financial statements for Musawah and Funders as per the requirements stipulated in agreements.
  • Prepare month-end reconciliation of bank statements.
  • Maintain the book-keeping and financial transactions of Musawah in accordance with the current Accounting Standards.
  • Ensure that the Management Accounts are updated monthly and made available for the preparation of reports for the Finance Committee meetings and Board Meetings.
  • Update on a monthly basis the programme budgets and provide a guide to the Programmes and Managament Teams of budget utilisation.
  • Ensure that all accounting procedures comply with Musawah Financial Guidelines.
  • Monitoring the Cashflow of Musawah and special projects accounts.
  • Banking matters. 
  • Monitor and update the schedule on movement of Investment in Foreign Currency Account.

Project Work 

  • Other Projects: Work together with the Management, Coordinator(s), Programme Officers and other related parties in preparing budget(s) and all funding reports to the funders.


  • Liaise with funders for submission of accounts in accordance with funders’ format and guidelines.
  • Prepare budget and check all funding reports under the supervision of the Manager – Resource Management Team.

Audit and Company Secretary

  • Ensure that Musawah Management accounts and its relevant schedules are made available in a  timely manner to be forwarded to the Auditors.
  • Ensure that the Annual Statement of Accounts are to be signed and approved by Musawah Board of Directors no later than 30 June annually.
  • To submit hard copies to the Company Secretary for their onward submission to the Security Commission of Malaysia.

Organisational Development (General)

  • Report regularly to the Manager –  Resource Management Team on the progress of work and inform of any issues which are potentially constructive or detrimental to the organisation.
  • Assist in the conduct of activities such as meetings, brainstorming etc as deemed appropriate by the  Manager – Resource Management Team.
  • Participate in staff meetings, and in the management team meetings when necessary. 
  • In collaboration with Manager – Resource Management Team and appropriate staff members,  contribute to the development of funding proposals, submissions or contracts/agreements.


  • Ensure high-quality implementation of projects, by regularly updating the tracking of contract / agreement data based;
  • Assist in the day-to-day efficient running of the office by regularly updated 52-weeks calendar or any similar tracking methods used by the organisation;
  • Assist the Manager – Resource Management Team and the management team in any other tasks as instructed in pursuit of the vision, mission, and objectives of Musawah;
  •  Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor and management. 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The Finance Officer should be able to meet most of the following: 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related fields.
  2. At least 4-6 years’ experience in accounting, financial management and reporting, and annual external auditing. Working experience in an international NGO setting dealing with multi-currencies is not mandatory but would be an added advantage.
  3. Excellent numeracy, financial and analytical skills, with systematic attention to detail and accuracy.
  4. General accounting (IFRS) experience including knowledge of normal monthly closing processes, Balance Sheet account reconciliations, and year-end audit activities with a solid hold of budgeting, accounting and analytical skills.
  5. Must have excellent communication and written skills in English, including an ability to communicate by phone or by e-mail.


Organisational skills

  1. Must have excellent communication and written skills in English, including an ability to communicate by phone or by e-mail.
  2. Skilled at working with colleagues and Management who may not have an accounting background to request information and give directions.
  3. Creativity, a positive “can-do” attitude and the ability to anticipate problems and proactively suggest/find solutions.
  4. Ability to work under pressure and on occasional irregular working hours to accommodate across multiple timezones.

Salary and Benefits

Musawah offers a competitive salary and benefits scheme, appropriate for such a position in the non-profit sector, dependent upon experience and qualifications. 

Salary range: From RM 7,500 


The position is only open to Malaysians and the successful candidate will be based at the Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
