A Report on Malaysia’s Progress and Commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 5.1.1

About This Resource

Musawah collaborated with Sisters in Islam on a research project to commission a report to raise awareness of where Malaysia currently stands in its efforts to eliminate discrimination against women and to achieve gender equality in areas such as marriage, family, and workplaces. The report provides an assessment of Malaysia’s commitment towards meeting Goal 5: Gender Equality by examining the current legislative system and policies that are in place to promote, enforce and promote equality and non-discrimination based on sex based on indicator 5.1.1 through 45 key questions developed by the UN.

This report is pivotal for national-level advocates to apply the methodology presented in the report in order to effectively and accurately track the progress of countries to end all forms of discrimination against women and girls everywhere based on the 45 questions listed under SDG Indicator 5.1.1.
