Musawah OHCHR Submission: Child, Early and Forced Marriage

In December 2013, Musawah, the global movement for equality and justice in the Muslim family, submitted its contribution to the OHCHR report in preparation for the panel discussion preventing and eliminating child, early and forced marriage, to take place at the twenty-sixth session of the Human Rights Council (pursuant to HRC resolution A/HRC/RES/24/23). The Musawah contribution addresses the particular problematic of child marriage in Muslim contexts, and the urgent need to challenge the ways in which governments invoke outdated but contested interpretations of Islamic laws to justify this practice or to justify why change is not possible.
