Reflections from the South and Southeast Asia Regional Workshop on Muslim Family Law Reform

In October 2019, Musawah hosted a South and Southeast Asia Regional Workshop on Muslim Family Law (MFL) Reform in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As the first of our regional workshops as part of the Musawah Campaign for Justice in Muslim Family Laws, to be launched in 2020, we were honoured to have 36 participants from 14 countries.

Musawah, Equality Now and more than 100 women’s rights and human rights organisations and activists working in Muslim contexts wrote to leaders of Muslim-majority countries urging them to raise their voice to support equality for women, recognise the critical role that women’s rights defenders play in this regard, and condemn the imprisonment and torture of women human rights defenders.
